Project Description

Modeling and experimental investigation of diluted aqueous systems containing bioengineered products

Production of bio-products from renewable raw materials is always more interesting in chemical industries. Chemical products as for example amino acids, organic acids, enzymes and vitamins can be produced in bioprocesses with the use of yeasts or bacteria, but these products are often too expensive to compete with conventional products. One of the reasons of these high costs is the recovery of products in down-stream processes after synthesis, where products are in complex diluted aqueous solutions. The challenge is to isolate the products selectively and with high yield from these mixtures increasing product concentration by removal of excess water. The aim of the project funded by the European Union and in cooperation with several partners from industry and research is to provide innovative solutions for downstream processing with integration of different separation techniques. This is essential to a successful and competitive development of sustainable processes and it is a benefit for all industries dealing with diluted aqueous systems.
