Microscale Morphology of Component Surfaces (MICOS) /
Wetting of Component Surfaces

Wetting of component surfaces is important in many applications of components and in their manufacturing. Microscale structures strongly influence wetting and can be used for controlling wetting. We develop models and methods for studies of static and dynamic wetting of component surfaces and related phenomena like adsorption with molecular simulations. In a scale-bridging approach, the molecular simulations are connected to phase field simulations of wetting. Additionally, experimental studies of wetting and cleaning of component surfaces are carried out.
You will join the interdisciplinary team of the Collaborative Research Center CRC 926: Microscale Morphology of Component Surfaces (MICOS), in which the German National Science Foundation (DFG) funds 20 projects from mechanical engineering, process engineering, and physics. Your project (A01) is a co-operation between the Laboratories of Thermodynamics and Technical Mechanics. The experiments are carried out together with the Institute of Surface and Film Analytics (IFOS) and the Laboratory of Mechanical Process Engineering.
