Enrichment of Components at Interfaces in Fluid Separations (ENRICO)

The ENRICO project aims to build a bridge between basic physical science and engineering. Findings on the enrichment of components at fluid interfaces from molecular thermodynamics are linked to fluid separation process design. The main part of that link is a novel mass transfer theory being developed to account for an interfacial resistance due to the enrichment of components at fluid interfaces. ENRICO is a groundbreaking research project with a very broad and important impact in industry and academia alike.

A major part of my role in ENRICO is the design, building and operation of experimental setups to put the central hypothesis of ENRICO to a rigorous test. Therefore, a laminar jet apparatus is currently being built from scratch in the laboratories of the LTD. Parallel, an existing stirred-cell apparatus will be modified and put back into operation to corroborate the results from the laminar jet experiments.
