Projektbeschreibung

Molekulare Modellierung und Simulation von nanoskopischen Kontaktvorgängen und tribologischen Eigenschaften von Schmierstoffen

Experimentelle Untersuchungen des Kontaktbereichs in tribologischen Systemen und die dort auftretenden Stoffeigenschaften sind aufgrund der extremen Bedingungen (z.B. sehr hoher Druck und sehr kleine Abmaße) in der Regel nicht möglich. Molekulare Simulationen können hier wichtige Informationen liefern. Dazu werden am Lehrstuhl für Thermodynamik (LTD) zwei Konzepte verfolgt:

  • Zum einen werden nanoskopischen Kontaktvorgängen unter Schmierstoffeinfluss mittels molekularer Kontaktsimulationen untersucht. Diese Kontaktvorgänge treten bei technischen Prozessen u.a. in der Fertigungs- oder Lagerungstechnik zwischen den Rauheitsspitzen der Kontaktpartner auf. Ein besseres Verständnis der molekularen Prozesse im Kontaktbereich kann z.B. neue Ansätze zur Optimierung spanender Fertigungsprozesse liefern.
  • Zum anderen ist die Vorhersage der Schmierstoffeigenschaften im Kontaktbereich von besonderem Interesse für die technische Anwendung. Mithilfe von molekulardynamischen Simulationen und molekular-basierten Zustandsgleichungen sollen Schmierstoffeigenschaften (v.a. bei hohen Drücken) bestimmt werden, die experimentell nicht gemessen werden können. Diese Schmierstoffeigenschaften können z.B. als Eingangsgrößen für tribologische Kontaktmodelle verwendet werden, die heute bei der Auslegung von Maschinenelementen eingesetzt werden.

Ziel des Projektes ist die Anwendung von Methoden der molekularen Thermodynamik zur Untersuchung technisch relevanter Fragestellungen in der Tribologie (z.B. in der Fertigungstechnik oder bei Maschinenelementen).

Das Projekt ist in das internationale Graduiertenkolleg IRTG 2057 "Physical Modeling for Virtual Manufacturing Systems and Processes" eingebunden. Hier werden verschiedene Fertigungsprozesse und -abläufe auf unterschiedlichen Skalen untersucht und deren Zusammenhänge betrachtet.
